Hardwork

Lay-Zee Boy
Recently I have realized how good work actually can be.  I have a long history of laziness or the "That's not my job",...or even the "Someone else could do it" look on my face when asked to do something productive and meaningful.  Believe it or not I've missed out on so many good opportunities to work hard and see yield from it.  Since the tail of 2010, I was getting kicked in the balls by my bosses and fellow comrades because of my laziness and unwillingness to step to the plate of meaningful work.  In all actuality I became a burden and a liability when I was supposed to be an asset through taking part in the work load.

Men lead by working
One thing I learned that as a man it is my very responsibility and nature to be a hard worker.  A man has responsibility to manage the home, provide for his family, work a job, love a wife, maintain the house, car etc., and lead other men(depending on what it is).  This takes a lot of hard work.  When I was single I had no idea what type of work it took to provide for a family or maintain a home or vehicle.  At the very heart of this responsibility was leadership.  Imagine this, a man who owns a business who is always late and never follow through with commitments.  At the same time, he's not disciplined and irresponsible and not a good listener because he always forgets or gets the wrong thing from the grocery store disappointing his wife.  As a result we fail. And when we fail whoever is following us fails too.  But the failure of who is following you are totally accountable for them.  Hard work in this regard can be defined in these areas that we are constantly faced with daily.  The question is, how hard and diligent will we work at accomplishing them?  Will we be good leaders by following through with commitments and therefore build trust? Will we be good listeners to follow instructions to be good providers?  These things are necessary if we seek to be men, men who lead by being diligent and hardworking.

Paul?
Biblically the Apostle Paul found no use for men who were idle or unwilling to work.  I'm reminded of the book of Philemon, when Philemon's indentured servant Onesimus ran away from his master Philemon, when he damaged or stole Philemon's property.  Onemisus had an encounter with Paul in prison.  Paul shared the gospel with Onesimus and Onesimus responded and began to follow Christ.  After that, Paul found Onesimus somewhat useful to his ministry.  Onesimus being a servant and all must had some great work ethic(he was a servant) to where Paul was willing to keep Onesimus with Himself instead of sending Him back to His master.  Paul knew what to look for in men.  He knew if men were useful to him the the work of the gospel simply because the gospel required much more that preaching but serving, working, helping, delivering and teaching(making disciples).

On The Job
Had a horrific Snow day last week and my first thought when I woke up that morning was "Snow day!", I'm staying home.  My wife didn't help in that regard.  As I got dressed and tied my boots to hit the road, my wife said in a caring voice "call your boss and see if you have to come in"? I responded "He didn't call me so I'm going in.  We had about 10 inches of snow on our rd.  I gunned the daddy wagon through the snow down the street to get to work.  I finally arrived and on time.  I grabbed a shovel and got to work on our grounds. I looked up theres Dallas Gatlin and Nate Oliver.  As we stood shoulder to shoulder shoveling not just our property but our neighbors as well to do gospel in our neighborhood, and then to enjoy a warm cup of cocoa with our friends as we warmed up from a hard day of work, we enjoyed every moment of it.  Thankful for hard work! What do you think?

The Wardrobe

Whats In Your Closet?
Many of us treat life like a closet full of clothes.  Everyday we wake up we put on an identity.  Its like clothes we wear we find what we would look best in so that others would percieve us in a way we desire.  This wardrobe we have of many identities is used to mask the nakedness of who we really are.  I remember a time I was so ashamed of who I was so I made up an identity of my own to cover my suffering and problems.  I was in a foster home between the ages of 10-20.  People would ask me about my mother like "Where does She work"?  I would respond with an answer that was so far beyond the truth like "Oh..She's an accountant"...lol.  Its ridiculous.  It got soo bad that I really wanted to be accepted to the point that I was lying about where I was from, who my dad was and a whole gammit of things.  In reality, I was looking for something to give me worth and acceptance and I felt that if I let people know who I really am they wouldnt love me or wouldn't befriend me.  This was my wardrobe.  I awoke every morning to fit in an identity that wasn't mine.  These were clothes my true figure couldn't fit. Matter of fact, the longer I lied the seams of the stitch tore worse and worse until the truth of who I was had been revealed.  Even as a Christian I see that "theology" or "goodworks" in and of themselves are wardrobes.  We make it that way.  You can have acceptance among christian circles if you know how to break down the doctrine of "election" or "Christology" and if you are a descent person.  These things are good but we corrupt it when it is used for our personal gain: acceptance. Whats in your closet??

Ditch the Mask Please
When life is open and exposed to others there is no room for hypocrisy.  My family and I live with two single men and they witness our family problems, conflicts and good times.  This type of living demands openess and honesty with our lives.  I think most of us avoid deeper relationships for this very reason.  We would rather live closed, safe and secure lives as long as no one knows your dirt right?  I think the biggest challenge is if the people whom you are engaged with in relationship has the capacity of love to be faithful no matter what.  This is very seldom.   If so, wouldnt you think you would be more comfortable by commiting your secrets, thoughts, honest opinions, history, time, money etc. to the deepening of rich and wholesome relationships with people.  Authenticity is a lost cause in our culture.   Everyone has an image or an expectation that they are striving to live up to.  If we look a bit closer, none of us meet those expectations that we have for others so we mask ourselves to have it.  We are a people afraid of rejection.  This prevents us from pursuing relationships with people even though we are social beings and naturally crave relationship.  But first we must ditch the mask and be willing to let people see us for who we truly are.
